HAPPY GROUNDHOG DAY!

I don't think we have to wonder if the groundhog saw his shadow today!  It's going to take him several days just to burrow out of his hole.  The pictures cannot convey the enormity of this blizzard.  Those drifts are shoulder high.  Not quite sure how I'm going to get to the garage where the snowblower is located.  Tried to shovel a bit to take this picture, but didn't get to far as the snow is very heavy.  It's overwhelming!  See.  This is why you need a well-stocked pantry!  I leave you with this:

And, for the winter fireside meet,
Between the andirons' straddling feet,
The mug of cider simmered slow,
The apples sputtered in a row,
And, close at hand, the basket stood
With nuts from brown October's wood.

What matter how the night behaved?
What matter how the north-wind raved?
Blow high, blow low not all its snow
Could quench our hearth-fire's ruddy glow.

Romantic isn't it?  Bet you Whittier had a hired hand to shovel his snow!

  1. I had a time getting to the chickens and our poor little dog couldn't get out the door. Good thing I left a shovel and broom inside the porch! Shovel just a little bit at a time-don't over do it.
    Stay warm

  2. Something else isn't it Vickie? Had to shovel off the porch just to open the gate. Georgie is not sure what to do with it. It was well over his head even when he was standing on his back legs. Take it slow Vickie, hopefully we'll be dug out by the end of the month!

  3. Well looks the same here in Kenosha.... Glad we have a sliding glass door- otherwise it would take a week to get out the front door.

  5. Amazingly, Minnesota escaped most of this storm's wrath considering the huge swath this cut across the country. Stay warm and take care all of you "shovelers"!!

  6. Sandy, I'll try not to be too envious of you. I know that Minnesota gets more than it's fair share of snow. My son who works in Ann Arbor didn't get any either. Guess we're just lucky here!

  7. My goodnesss! I can't believe how high those drifts are!!! Aren't you grateful for a warm house and full tummies? Snuggle up, drink tea, knit, and enjoy the forced slow down!

    Stay safe!

  8. No time to sit and knit for me Matty! Removing this snow is a bear! Yesterday Jamie and I started shoveling out. After an hour and a half we had only managed a narrow path. The trouble is that it's too much for the snowblower to handle, so we have to shovel off the top 3 or 4 feet before the snowblower can get to it. On the bright side, I don't have to do my exercises!
