A THING OF BEAUTY FOR A DIME

This little teacup hanging by a grosgrain ribbon from the knob of my china cupboard makes me smile every time I glance at it.  And the fact that it only cost a dime at a garage sale thrills my thrifty heart.  The pattern is Virginia Rose from Homer Laughlin.

  1. Dear Jane,

You're going to have to take me to your next garage sale! What a great deal, and a thing of beauty, too.

    Love,

    Marqueta

  2. Hi Marqueta! We'd have fun! In August they hold a garage sale trail that stretches from the tip of the Thumb all the way down to Port Huron (about 100 miles). We pack a picnic lunch and make a day of it.

  3. Thanks Shara! I thought after a couple posts about emergency preparedness, I'd post something lighthearted today.

  5. Hi Jane, what a sweet little tea cup! You have a beautiful china cupboard. You have some very pretty blue and white pieces. I collect those too. The garage sale trail sounds like so much fun! I wish they had something like that in my area. We are out in the sticks and garage sales are very rare. Usually when someone has something to sale, they will load up their truck and bring their stuff to the parking lot of our local grocery store. The place to find good buys here is our big red Antique Barn. They have a few real "antiques" but mainly cute collectables and nick nacks. Last year we found a little maple china hutch for our kitchen. I hope you are having a nice weekend! Delisa :)

  6. I love how you have that displayed, Jane. I'm going to try that with some of the pretty cups I have collected. I love how you can change out the cups, too and give each one a chance in the spotlight. Very clever!!

  7. Hi Matty! Have you recovered from your shocking experience?

Hi Delisa! Thank you! My blue and white china collection started when my husband brought home two teacups from his trip to Belgium, now I have a complete service for twelve of Spode's Blue Tower! It's amazing how many pretty things are out there at garage sales, thrift stores and junk/antique shops. Your maple china hutch sounds nice. We have a lot of maple furniture. I'm probably the last person still decorating Early American style!

Sandy, it's nice to change them to represent each season. And change the ribbon color too.

  8. I love it when you find something -- a wee treasure -- that makes you smile every time you see it.

What a pretty teacup you found!

BTW, my first time visit, saw your link at Sandy's (and He shall direct my paths).

Here's wishing you glimpses of heaven in unexpected places.........
