Hello dear friends! Just wanted to jump on here to wish you all a very merry Christmas. And to thank all of you that sent warm wishes my way. Such lovely notes! My heart truly overflows!
Ran, Jamie and I are spending the day in quiet contemplation. Our celebration is very simple. Just a meal of New England boiled dinner and homemade bread and soft conversation. And it is perfect. And if you look close enough, there even remains a bit of snow in the shady areas of the yard, so I have my white Christmas (sort of)! See you in the new year!

Merry Christmas, Jane! Your meal sounds perfect. I was thinking of mixing up bread last night but was too lazy! I read that the holy family ate fruit, fish and bread (packed) on their journey. I think that sounds like a good meal. We had a very peaceful Christmas also as our children stayed at their homes. Not easy when we don't live close and I don't wish travel on anybody during this season. hugs, andrea
ReplyDeleteHello Andrea! We'll be eating a lot of what the holy family ate this winter. I was just telling Ran we need to eat down our freezer that is packed with fish and fruit. Ha! Makes me feel kind of nice knowing that. Thank you for the information. We can never depend on the weather here for travel. Supposed to get an ice storm tomorrow. ReplyDeleteWe had a very quiet Christmas, all homemade gifts with treasures found around in and outside of home. My 14 y.o. son built me a beautiful doll house out of cedar with handmade miniatures!! He hand sawed the wood, etc.
My goodness, was I surprised. I cried so hard, he said it was an "Edwardian" style home.
We butchered a pig we raised. The boys smoked and grilled most of what we ate. Lots of left overs.

Sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas, I am so glad for you. We got that ice that they predicted, so today we are just hunkering down and I'm working on knitting up scrap yarn into a colorful afghan.

ReplyDeleteYes, I’d like to knit a few cushion covers (and perhaps leg warmers). Am currently knitting a leaf pattern (ajour ‘open-work’)). Just a sample to master it. I’d like to adjust the pattern a wee bit afterwards.

That sounds like a reasonable goal. You are wise to make a sample before starting a large project. I have confidence in you that you can do it! I sat down and made a list of the things I wanted to knit this year and it had over twenty things on it! And you know I'll get distracted by other projects along the way.

And you too, Belinda! I'm having the most lovely time this winter; mending, sewing, knitting, cross stitching and canning dried beans. When the sun is out and the wind dies down, I love to be outside. I think shoveling snow is so much more a fun form of exercise than running on a treadmill. I know, people think I'm crazy, but what can I say, I am a true northern gal. Ha!

Hello Jane! Just popped in to say hi. We've been in the 70's here during the day, and I'm not ready for it! I sure miss those slow cozy winters up north.
ReplyDeleteWe did get snow 2 weeks ago. Oh, we were in our glory! We "sled" down our small hill in giant stainless bowls..haha! Just don't have sleds here. The kids took video and I laughed till I cried!
I've been embroidering some handkerchiefs for the family until I can get more yarn to work on that knitting!

Good to hear from you Rose! I'm glad you and your family were able to enjoy a bit of snow. It's been a real northern winter this year around here and we are loving it. It may sound crazy, but I enjoy shoveling snow. Sure beats running on a treadmill for exercise! Only problem is finding a place to pile it. This week we are supposed to have a few days above freezing so the snowbanks should shrink a bit. Ran is getting ready to tap the maple trees.
DeleteI'm still knitting through my yarn stash and we are trying to eat down some of our pantry. We rarely leave home except to pick up our mail. I'm in heaven!

ReplyDeleteI haven't commented in ages. It got a bit chaotic here. All my children decided to move and change jobs at the same time and my home was central command and drop off spot for everything. Then daughter had an emergency c section but God is good. She and baby are all recovered and things were getting back to normal but now husband has pneumonia but hopefully is on the mend. I hope all is well for you and your family. I truly enjoy reading whatever you have time to write. Ginger
Oh my Ginger, your plate is certainly full! Prayers for your husband. We are patiently waiting for Spring to arrive here. Perhaps we will skip it entirely and just move on to summer. In the meantime, we have kept ourselves busy working on all sorts of projects the we have put off too long. This past week we had a new roof put on our house and our firewood delivered. Jamie has it split and stacked already. Today, two nearby villages had village-wide garage sales. We had such fun and got some amazing bargains. But boy, it was cold and windy! It's what I call a two-sweater day, when you wear a sweater under a heavy cardigan. Thank you for stopping by and letting me know how you are doing! Hopefully, soon everything will be back on an even keel!

Hope you have a great summer and get to soak in lots of heat. Ha! It was a very cold spring here , (cold, rainy and gray) and now I understand why you hate winter. I thought of you often on those days and said more than once to Ran, "Poor Andrea, this must be what winter feels like to her. At least spring is a short season here.".

lol..yes I do not like winter. And we had an unusually cold spring. I was just enjoying the 92 degrees today (low humidity so not bad at all). We need rain though. That's in God's hands though! hugs, andrea
DeleteHope you get rain, then. We had major flooding this Spring. A lot of the little villages further north were wiped out. Strange how so much of the country is in drought and our neck of the woods had too much rain. Not complaining though, it did all of the trees a world of good. And really filled the rain barrels.
