DISCRETION IS THE BETTER PART OF VALOR

Hello dear friends!  Just popping in to let you know that I will not be posting this week.  I wouldn't be able to post without addressing the big elephant in the room- the presidential election, and I do not care to do that.  I try not to write about my political views on this blog, which must be working because I have received e-mails both congratulatory and commiserating this week; so I guess  few people know my true political leanings.  And that is the way I like it, because I have learned arguing politics is an exercise in futility, as is religion.  As they say, discretion is the better part of valor.  To those that voted for Hilary, here is my response to Kathy that I wrote in the comments:

As to all the nastiness (you'd think this was a military coupe rather than a presidential election) of the week, I would say just give the president-elect a chance. Rarely have I ever voted for the winning team (and I've been voting since the mid-70s) so I understand disappointment when your candidate is not elected. However; that is the beauty of our system, there is a checks and balance system, so no one person is given too much power. What I do is write to my representatives, sign petitions and when I'm disappointed in how they vote on key issues, I vote and campaign against them the next election. Rarely does an incumbent get my vote! Ha! And I pray! I pray that God's will is done. We see through the glass darkly, so sometimes it is difficult to fathom what is God's will, so acceptance is also part of my walk in faith.

Hope that gives some of you peace! I'll be back next week with something fun.  Until then .....

Hugs

Jane

  1. Elation or despair according to how you voted, and your words are so true. Everyone deserves a chance, and after all, if isn't to your liking, in 4 years you can vote again .Meantime, our TV down here is still covering the protests, the new family who will be in The White House, the speculations, but so soon it will all focus on Christmas and this will be a memory.

  2. Very well written, Jane! I know in the past (over a decade) years I have just silently went on the "day after" the election. I appreciated it when others did not mention it to me...ha... Of course we have quite the opposite going on now. Hugs,Andrea

  4. I love that you don't let people know who you are for. You are getting your message of a beautiful thrifty life heard without putting any political views in it. I always say that's not the point of my blog either. Have a great week Jane

  6. Jane,
Oh, my. I was so looking forward to a post about frugality and to see what you have accomplished this past week to takeep my mind off of all the negativity.
But, I do understand your position and I respect it. Something that many adults, young and old, need to learn.
Have a great week and I will be back next week!
    Many blessings to you both.
    In Christ,
    Kim

  7. Dear Jane,

    Courage.

What we do in our homes is really more important than what is done in the streets.

    As ever.. m

  9. Oh, darn. I just found your blog a couple of months ago and look forward to each new post...was hoping to find a little inspiration today but completely understand your need to take a break this week.
I have gleaned such great information here and appreciate your positive approach to thrifty living. It's contagious! :)
We are in our early sixties with a low income and for the first time in 2 decades have adequate health care but that may be in peril so frugality is of extreme importance. I eagerly await next week's post.

  11. Dear Jane,
I too have been unplugging since last week. Couldn't take anymore of people's opinions or comments. Its been really peaceful, actually. My mom and I were talking last week and she said there was a time when it was considered the height of bad manners to ask someone who they voted for. I'm with her on that! Anyway, you are missed but I can hardly fault you for wanting to duck the storm when I've been doing the same thing. :) I'll leave you with this frugal-thing-I-did-this-week: cut two boxes of dollar store dryer sheets in half, effectively giving me 4 boxes of dryer sheets.
    God bless,
    Dana

  13. hi jane! I know this is not on topic, but I just wanted you to know that our sellers for the house we terminated the contract on finally released our earnest money back to us just today! I had written them a letter explaining our legal right to terminate based on how our contract was written and hinted that we would take action if they did not return it, and so they did! Amen! (I am sure it was God, not my letter, that turned this around). Andrea

  14. I think you are wise to take some time off from all the political nastiness. I just wish it had all stopped after the election but unfortunately it is looking like it is going to drag on. I'm just thankful that ultimately God is in control. Be blessed my friend and enjoy life to the fullest!
