Hello dear friends! Today I traveled downstate to see the grandbabies for Christmas, so today's post will be short and sweet. I'm tuckered out! Why is it that sitting six hours in a car is more tiring than a hard day's work? You ever hear something so often that it becomes white noise? I'm afraid that's me with the Nativity narrative in Luke. I've heard it at least once a week during every Advent since I can remember. After a while, I'm ashamed to say, it just went in one ear and out the other. Then one December I was listening to The Today Show or Good Morning America and I heard Orson Welles read from the Bible and it was like I was hearing it for the first time. I searched for a recording for ages, and although this is an earlier recording than what I heard, I think you might enjoy this.
Tomorrow I will have a better post, I promise! Have a blessed December 19th!
Hope you were able to get some rest! I know it was wonderful to see the grandbabies, but those car trips are exhausting aren't they.
ReplyDeleteI used to think that I would like to travel across country seeing the sights, but not so sure that will happen now.
Will check out the recording, thanks!
Especially in the winter, Kathy. You never can depend on the forecast. I thought it would be nice to travel too, but as I've gotten older, I've discovered that being in my own comfy bed at night, is infinitely better than the excitement of seeing something new. Guess I'm an old stick in the mud!

Me oh my, Jane, you did well to post at all. I'm always done in by long rides in the car, and if I drive I am it's worse than ever. Glad you got to see the grand babies though. The littles are so sweet and precious.
ReplyDeleteYou're not the only one whose mind wanders when something especially familiar is read. Sometimes I have to go over my daily scripture reading two or three times. We listen to the KJV by Alexander Scourby or another dramatized version from another source just for a change to keep us alert.
Have a great day!
Is that available online, Toni? I like to listen to Daily Bible, the narrator's voice is remarkable. But I don't really know how to work the website, so I'm unable listen to it daily. Isn't it amazing how the Bible, read wonderfully makes it come alive?

An older version of Alexander Scourby reading the KJV is available on Youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZ8tkCqfwIk&list=PLo_B1fyZewkWYFDnO5lojBSjCZa-OyFaz
DeleteThe dramatized version we have is only on DVD, as far as I know, unless you have a smart phone or tablet. In that case there is a free app for it on Google Play.
What a wonderful long day you had. Thank you for the link. I feel bad because I find my mind wandering during that reading. If I hear it outside Christmas season it holds my attention better, which to me makes it worse.
ReplyDeleteHave a restful day! Hugs, Jen
I think we hear it said in such a monotone delivery throughout the year and children's Christmas pageants and such, that it loses its meaning. Such a shame because it is so spiritually deep. Hope you are staying warm! One degree this morning! We had to rescue another homeless kitten today. What a cutie!

How nice! You sound like me and trips though! I'm going to click on that you tube now! Thanks! Hugs, Andrea
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting for that teleportation device like on Star Trek, Andrea. Then I will gladly travel the world and get back home every night to my own home. Hope you like the link!
