The Keeper of the Home

Hello dear friends!  The other day I had the opportunity to spend some time with a more worldly gentleman.  Since most of the people I associate with are humble, salt-of-the-earth types, it was interesting to see how the rest of the world see us. Indeed, to the world we keepers of the home seem like dull, uninteresting people.  So, I wanted to write what the lowly homemaker's life is like.

The keeper of the home:

Arises early and firstly thanks the Lord for seeing them through the night, then humbly asks for His guidance throughout the day, that His will shall be done, the Holy Spirit will speak through her and that she will be a good example of Christian love.

Dresses herself in a humble modest attire that enables her to do the tasks before her.

Keeps her home in a neat and tidy manner, so that her family can find serenity and refuge in it.

Prepare meals that are nourishing and wholesome.  And asks for God's blessing over the food and is thankful for it.

Works diligently and cheerful at the work before her but is never too busy to stop and comfort a child or ease the worries of her husband.

Is never too busy to put a pot of tea or coffee on and listen to a troubled friend or a lonely elderly neighbor.

Is kind and sincere to strangers.

When she goes out, acts in a way that is a reflection of the Father's love for her.  Notices the troubled and tries to help.  Whether it's playing peek-a-boo with the crying toddler in the grocery store so that the harried mother can have a small break or noticing a troubled person and sending up a prayer for them.

Studies the Bible daily and spends time in prayer.

Works quietly at creative endeavors, because it is in the quiet times, she hears the voice of God.

If she works at charity, she does it for the glory of God and not for her own glorification.

And at the end of the day, repents of her sins and is thankful for her blessings.

So, you see dear friends, you may not have the most exciting life to those that seek the things of this world, but you are a very important chink in the foundation of God's kingdom. As the saying goes from one of my favorite movies, It's a Wonderful Life, "you never know how you have touched other's lives" just by some simple gesture.  So be proud to be a keeper of the home!

Hugs

Jane

  1. Thank you, and very well said. To God be the glory! This made me happy all over again to be a housewife of 30 years 😊

    1. Thank you Rose. The Lord prompted me to write this. Every once in a great while, it is good to be reminded that our humble little lives as housewives can make a difference, just as much if not more so than people that are doing "big" things in world. We cannot all be missionaries out in the field, but we can all be missionaries, none the less! Have a blessed day!

  2. That is beautiful, Jane! Surely it is inspired by God! I love being in my little abode!
I always enjoyed having babies and doing everything for them. And preparing food and feeding is so essential. (Along with homemaking.) hugs, andrea

    1. You and I came of age at the height of feminism, Andrea. I don't think younger people realize how difficult it was to be a homemaker back then when all of society was telling us that we were nobodies unless we had a career and were making a mark on society. Fortunately, you knew that the ways of world are not the ways of the Father's. And look at your reward! That large, lovely family!

    2. Thank you, Jane! You also knew. It was the age of being assertive too. Such an un-Godly virtue for a woman. hugs, andrea

    3. It certainly is an attitude that is detrimental to a Biblical marriage. I see more unhappy marriages because of it. When women complain to me that their husbands act like babies and aren't pulling their weight, I so want to say, "and how are you acting to give him such ideas?" I don't think most women have a clue how the feminism programing has affected their lives. Andrea, do you remember those awful Norman Lear shows like All in the Family and Maud? Propaganda was everywhere back then!

    4. I actually have watched all the "All in the Family". It goes right over my head. My husband absolutely hated it. I was interested in Edith, trying to figure her out. I just watch it to see the scenery of the house, which brings back 1970's memories to me...not especially good ones.
Those weren't the best of days! hugs, andrea

  5. I thank God that I am a keeper of the home. My husband has been so supportive of this all our married life. We made single income work and I was home to nurture the kids and homeschool them through high school. It was worth every sacrifice we made .

    1. Thank you, Jen! The news is never good, is it? t's alarming how quickly everything seems to be going downhill. Ran and I were talking this evening, things that we thought was crazy talk just a few years ago, is happening now and even scarier becoming the norm. But then God did tell us it would be like this, so our hope does not lie in this world, and we lift our eyes to the hills from which our help comes. My favorite Psalm (121).

  7. Well said. I’d rather be a salt of the earth person than worldly any day. More joy and less stress in my life. I agree the world is upside down and sinking fast. However we have our hope in God. He knows exactly what is going on and will be there for the faithful. Now that being said we can’t bury our talens. We need to prepare for ourselves, family, and others in the community that may need help. Jane thank you for this blog it is truly a blessing and I enjoy it!

    1. So true Julie! When I look back on my life so many things that I thought were catastrophic at the time, turned out to be blessings in disguise. We just need to trust and obey.

    1. Hello dear Brooke! I sincerely hope that you and yours are well. I've been on quite a creative bent since giving up blogging. That, combined with gardening and preserving the harvest has kept me very busy. But I don't have to tell you about being busy. It is true what you say about finding commonality in today's world. Please know that if you wish to correspond with me, you are always welcome to do so by dropping me an e-mail at janezempel@yahoo.com. And I hope you do! It was so heart-warming to hear from you!
