DOING A TEN DOLLAR BILL JUSTICE

My mother sent me my birthday card with a ten dollar bill inside. :)   She instructed me to spend it on myself. So per instructions, I bought two  pairs of sherbet colored socks from the dollar store and a pair of pretty hair bobs (hair's been out of control lately).  A beautiful vintage Pendleton wool skirt , ballerina pink sweater, and  a happy vintage floral scarf from the thrift store.  And a bean burrito fresco style from Taco Bell.  For a grand total of  $9.00.  The remaining cash , I dropped in the Salvation Army pot, although I must confess, I thought hard about spending it on a donut with  green, white, and red sprinkles.  Oh well, I got more enjoyment out of hearing the ringer say  "Merry Christmas". I think I did that ten dollar bill justice!  Who says it isn't fun to be thrifty?

  1. That is amazing! My mom would've been proud of that price a few decades ago! I love pink now, and gray is the perfect match. (As my older complexion is dulling, I find pink helps....and after reading the other comments on the last post...I forgot to mention that I am ALWAYS hot...I cannot understand why my family isn't..ha..)love,andrea

  2. Andrea, I totally missed the hot flashes part of growing older and I'm disappointed! I think I might have had one, but I might have just been standing to close to the stove. Ha! Was hoping I'd finally have warm feet.

  4. I was thrilled with the Pendleton skirt, Anne. They're so classic and never go out of style and such good quality. Skirts are only $2.00 at our local thrift store because no one ever buys them. Except me!

  5. Oh Jane...you have done well with what you have! The skirt alone is worth more than just ten dollars - good for you!

And thank you Jane for all the wonderful, encouraging words you have written today...they mean more than you know.

  6. You definitely did that ten dollars justice!! What great finds, and what a fun way to stretch ten dollars for a fun birthday gift outing- including the burrito, so yummy! I love the Salvation Army ringers, something about them always makes me happy too!!

  7. Maria, I just checked the Pendleton web site and they still carry this skirt. On sale for $124, was $178! Can you imagine spending that kind of money on a skirt? You're very welcome about the comments. Believe me, when I say I can relate because I've been there and done that, I mean it. Merry Christmas!

Hi April! Yep, it was a lot of fun. We really have a nice thrift store nearby, and all the money goes to employing the mentally handicapped. The Salvation Army's short of reaching their goal this year, so I encourage everyone to drop a few dollars in the pot!

  13. Hi Vickie! We had a dusting of snow this morning. Hope it stays so we can have a white Christmas. Birthday isn't until the 31st so I got a jump on the celebrating. Having a birthday after Christmas is so anti-climatic! Merry Christmas!

    Sure did Joy! Happy birthday!

  16. Hi Vickie! Did you have a jolly Christmas? We're redoing the dining room today. Who sits around and rests during their vacation? Of course, all the real geniuses were born at the end of the year! Ha!

It was quite a moral struggle to not buy that donut Jedidja!
