Fourth of July

Hello dear friends!  Sorry for my absence, I've been struggling with what to write and how to say it these past few months.  There is so much I would like to say but think it is best left unsaid.  But I wanted to acknowledge this very special holiday, Independence Day! I'm a proud card-carrying member of the DAR, a descendent of the original 3%ers. My family has literally shed its blood for the freedoms we enjoy.  I had written a long tome but erased it and will let Ben say it for me:

Those who give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither safety nor liberty.
~Benjamin Franklin~

BTW, one dear reader suggested I post a home tour, which I will be happy to oblige, but it will be a while as Summer is my busy season and the house is in constant chaos with canning, guests and harvesting.  It doesn't help that we are going through a drought period and most of our days are spent watering our massive garden.  But I will have a tour as soon as we I possibly can.  I hope you all have a lovely Fourth of July and spend some time reflecting upon all the sacrifices that were given to make us free!

Hugs
Jane

  2. Hi Jane,
What a wonderful legacy you were blessed with. Thank you for the reminder to be grateful for all those who came before us and gave so much for our county's freedom. I'm with you, I could write a tome on my thoughts of our present day, but have laid it all before the One Who can do something about it.....and He will....in His perfect timing.
May the Lord bless you and your family with peace and strength as you go about your day.
Looking forward to your home tour.
    Hugs from Shirley

    1. It is so interesting to see that passion pass down from generation to generation, Shirley. I have never been prouder of sons as they have stood their ground on some of the recent issues.

For me, the present situation has little effect, but I do worry for my grandchildren, for it is true that God does let his beloved suffer to forge the iron. Hate that they may have a hard time of it, but I give it to God and His wisdom.

Hope you are enjoying your summer!

    2. I agree dear Jane. As a Grandmommy of fourteen I have great concern. The Lord has given my heart peace as I pray. He will raise up a strong and mighty company in these last days. He who never left us nor forsook or left us will never leave or forsake the righteous generation we leave behind.

  3. DAR has always been active around here. Ditto on everything...would like to write my thoughts but it would take a book! I was watching Grant last night on the History channel and I was thinking of all the sacrifices through the years men (mostly of course...didn't see any women shedding blood back then) have taken of their lives for our freedom. I keep thinking how we are giving up freedom and won't even fight by taking off a dumb mask! I know how busy you must be....hugs, Andrea

    1. My great great-grandfather died in the second battle of Bull Run, Andrea, and my great-grandfather joined the Union army when was 16 (he was elderly when my grandmother was born, so the Civil War is on my mind at times like these. Hearing you on the masks! I always wondered why the Germans buckled under to the fascist regime during WWII, and now I see people taking silly orders without even questioning even quicker, well, for me it is alarming. People are to impressed by celebrities these days. But then they make them their idols. Well, I'm sure we share many of the same views, which is why I enjoy your blog so much. When's the big move? Hoping it all goes smoothly and I can't wait to see your new home and gardens!

    2. That is so neat!
Our son,etc lives 13 miles from Bull Run.
Big move is in a little over 2 weeks. And I have yet to contact utilities and change addresses for everything! hugs, Andrea

    3. Cool! I've never been. There's so many places I'd love to visit. Fortunately with everything on-line, you can do everything via the computer or phone. Remember when you had to fill out stacks of address change cards? Times have changed. Bet there's even an app for it.

  4. Thank you Jane for this post. It's important we remember. Especially now as we experience attacks on our freedom and very way of life. Strange and troubling times for sure. Happy 4th! God Bless.

    1. Yes, I agree, Vickie, that it is important to remember our history, that's why it is so destressing to see all the statues and monuments being torn down. We don't need to love our past, but we should remember it, for without out it we are doomed to repeat it. Hope today is a joyful time for you.

  5. Thank you for the post and the sacrifices of your ancestors. My birthday is today and I try and remember this celebration is not about me :) Eager to see your house tour when you can manage. It is dry here too so I water my little patches almost daily. We have had little rain and Nebraska is well under their average rainfall this year. Thankful I have water to water with, not as some of our ancestors and their well would run dry. Thankful my garden does look good. Waiting for my hubby to get off work today and then the family and a couple friends are coming over for a cookout and potluck supper. Going to watch the fireworks in town and around the country side from our patio. My grandkids are eager to light their stash of fireworks in our back yard which overlooks cornfields. The perfect mix here at Breezy Hill of village and country. Thanks for popping in to say hi. Nannie

    1. Happy birthday Nannie! May you have many more. How's your hip these days?
Sounds like you are having the perfect celebration. The parade is going on right now, but I already watched it when they lined up past my window. Thank goodness it's so hot today! We're able to watch the fireworks from our front yard also. Sounds like Breezy Hill is a perfect fit for you. God Bless the USA!

  6. Freedom in any way has sacrifices behind it, and I wonder at the people who battled, who won, who lost, and the families as they struggled those many years ago. Happy 4th to you and yours, may the summer be as productive for you as it needs to be, rain in good time, and family love always. Fond greetings from down here, with cold nights, snowfalls, and rain.XXX

  7. Hello Jane, I’ve missed you.
This is such a strange time. It’s hard to be feel celebratory on this great national holiday when so many people seem to want to destroy this country from the inside.
Ben was a very wise man. Thanks for the quote.

    1. He was, Rhonda. Wasn't it amazing that so many wise men were all in the same place at the same time to help form this country? I would say that it was a miracle from Above. In spite of the awful news we hear on TV etc., there is hope out here in the "real world". In little Port Austin the patriot were out in full force waving flags and celebrating their freedoms. I believe that there are in the majority. We just have to have the courage to say enough. Hope all is well down your way!

  8. I'm technically a day late, but can say Happy Independence Day weekend.
Great quote! I would've loved to have read that tome, but I understand.
Enjoy the busy summer. It's quite hot here and I'm watering daily also.

    1. And the same to you, Jo! Thank you! My husband just reported to me that the forecast calls for more dry and hot weather with no end in sight. Oh well, I guess lugging around hoses and watering cans counts for exercise. Ha! Seems the poor farmers can't catch a break this year. Hope your summer is fun!

  9. Hi Jane, that quote is so true, it is strange, here the government doesn't insist on the public wearing masks, saying it is unnecessary, we have gone back to normal except for border restrictions, we are fortunate in zero community infections, what infections there are are from overseas people arriving. (They have to self isolate for 2 weeks).
I understand you on the difficulty of finding words for blogging, I have struggled too, but no doubt when I find something to say I will blog it, lol.
Hope you had a wonderful 4th July holiday weekend and maybe some rain, we have plenty here which you are welcome to have, my back garden was flooded on Saturday!

    1. Hello Sharon! So good to hear from you! I hope that you soon will have something to say, I miss your blog. Doing any crocheting? Isn't the weather strange? It's always so extreme lately. That's one of the reasons I like blogging. I can look back and see five years ago I was complaining about the heat and dry conditions then also. It's just summer weather. But if I could, I would gladly take you up on that offer of rain! Hope you have a lovely week!

  10. Hope you are having a great summer!
Hope you have a bountiful harvest too. I'm sure you are busy canning.
Oh I have an ancestor who is in the Patriot database, but I haven't applied to DAR. I wasn't sure it would be worth it to me.
Stay safe during these crazy times

    1. To be honest, Kathy, it isn't really worth the annual dues unless you live near Washington DC (you can get into many places that the public cannot). It was important to my father and my aunt, so that is why I applied. We all are big history buffs. But you know what? Just knowing that you come from some strong stock, that would stand by their principles when everyone else was just sitting by, is a wonderful legacy. I can see that strong patriot gene in my children and I couldn't be prouder of them. Hope your summer is going well also!
